Lucia says her voluntary savings group has written a history that will never be forgotten.
Lucia is a mother of five and a farmer. Before joining her savings group in 2020, she was not able to send her children to school, and while her husband works, they often could not afford three meals a day.
However, after receiving training on poultry feed preparation, improved agricultural practices, and how she could increase her income through poultry raising, Lucia took a loan from her group and started a poultry project!
Lucia obtained two cocks, which she crossbred with 10 local chickens. Now, she’s getting at least a tray of eggs every week, which she can sell for 400 Kenyan shillings (or about $3.50).
But her dream did not end there!
Last year, Lucia started her own grocery. This allows her to easily get loans from her group and make weekly loan repayments from her earnings.
The impact on Lucia's life – and her family’s – has been incredible. With a stable income, she is now able to provide a balanced diet for her family, support her children’s education, and cover other household expenses. Plus, she has gained respect, not only with her family, but in the community as well!
