SOCIAL MEDIA AND MARKETING INTERNSHIP

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Social Media and Marketing Intern to join our team! Through this internship, you will gain meaningful work experience with a nonprofit organization, as well as practical experience managing social media platforms, creating engaging content, and implementing digital marketing strategies.

You may apply for an internship for the academic school year (August through May) or for a single semester (August through December or January through May). Specific beginning and end dates will be determined based on your availability.

DESCRIPTION

Kiunga is looking for a creative, self-motivated individual to support our marketing efforts as we communicate with donors and online communities via campaigns, social media, web content, video, and design. The Social Media and Marketing Intern will produce engaging and unique content for the @kiunga.inc Instagram and Facebook accounts.

A passion for and proficiency with social media is required. Candidates should have strong creative, graphic design, and video editing skills, as well as a thorough understanding of social media marketing. They should be in tune with current social media trends and popular online content. With a genuine passion for Kiunga’s mission, candidates must be able to positively represent the brand and be eager to share it with online communities.

Applicants must also be prepared to independently manage daily tasks and larger scale projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategizing with the executive director to build Kiunga’s social media presence

  • Working independently to produce regular content by coming up with creative design and video concepts and editing content to completion

    • This will require the ability to use photos and videos from our Kenyan counterparts to create engaging, high-quality content for posts, ensuring that all content is on-brand

    • Bonus if you’re comfortable being on camera or recording audio for video content!

  • Collaborating with the team to develop and implement social media campaigns

  • Conducting research on industry and social media trends

  • Engaging with Kiunga’s online audience

  • Supporting Kiunga’s online presence, including helping with website and blog content

  • Managing and maintaining Kiunga’s digital photo and video database

  • Occasionally communicating with and providing support for donors

Critical qualities and skills:

  • A genuine passion for the mission of Kiunga

  • Experience creating written and visual content for Instagram and Facebook with a deep understanding of social media trends, hashtags, best practices, guidelines, platform updates, etc.

  • Ability to demonstrate a history of creating content that performed well and drove engagement (either for a personal account or a brand)

  • Superior verbal, written, copy editing, and proofreading skills

  • Highly organized and self-motivated; disciplined with priorities and time management

  • Independent, responsible and reliable

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office applications, and social media platforms

General requirements:

  • The position is remote, but candidates must be based in Nashville or Franklin, Tenn.

  • Ability to connect with direct supervisor via weekly videoconferences and in person once a month
