FAITH'S RESILIENCE

From Ashes to Hope: How Faith Built a Home and a Future

Faith Kathure’s life is a powerful reminder of what happens when community, courage, and compassion come together.

Faith and her husband, who works as a mason’s assistant, are raising six children in Kiwanjani Village. To help make ends meet, Faith takes on casual laundry jobs. Together, they’ve found encouragement and belonging in the Kagimbi Psychosocial Support Group—a place where members living with HIV not only share strength but also lift one another up through savings and loaning activities.

Earlier this year, tragedy struck. A fire consumed their rented home, reducing everything they owned to ashes. But instead of being defeated, Faith leaned on her community group.

Through the group’s low-interest loan system, she was able to borrow enough money, not just to rent again, but to build a modest house of her own. Throughout the process, group members came alongside the family, offering building materials, food, and encouragement.

Today, Faith’s family of eight lives in their own home. Though space is tight, their hearts are full, and they now dream of expanding their house when resources allow.

Faith reflects on her family’s journey with emotion:

“Sometimes I wonder—if Kiunga had not helped form these groups, where would we be today? Me, my children, my husband?”

Her words capture the heart of what Kiunga is all about—creating spaces where people find healing, dignity, and the courage to keep moving forward.

Faith’s story is just one of many being transformed through our support groups, all of which are made possible by the faithful support of partners like you!

In Faith’s courage, we see a truth worth celebrating: when communities unite, hope rises from the ashes.
