PURITY'S JOURNEY

A Mother’s Hope: Purity’s Journey to a Healthy Future

In Kiwanja Village in Isiolo, Purity’s days are shaped by the same force that drives mothers everywhere: love.

When she learned she was pregnant, that love came with a deep sense of responsibility, but also uncertainty. Like many mothers in her community, Purity faced the reality of HIV and the question that weighs heavily on any parent: Will my baby be born healthy?

Through Kiunga’s community health initiatives, Purity was enrolled in antenatal care, introduced to Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services, and connected to a Kiunga support group of expectant and new mothers. From the very beginning, she was supported, not just medically, but personally.

Kiunga Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) walked alongside her, offering guidance, encouragement, and reassurance. They answered her questions, checked in regularly, and reminded her that she had the strength to protect her child’s future.

And Purity embraced that role fully.

She attended every clinic appointment. She followed her treatment plan with consistency and care. Even when economic challenges made each step harder, she remained committed, because so often, motherhood means choosing perseverance in the face of uncertainty.

After her baby was born, that commitment only deepened.

Purity learned how to nourish and care for her newborn, ensuring timely immunizations and regular health checkups. Through continued home visits and peer support groups, she found both practical guidance and emotional strength. In a space where fear and stigma can exist, she found community and confidence.

Every choice she made reflected the quiet, powerful determination of a mother doing everything she can for her child.

And then came the moment she had been hoping for.

After months of care and follow-up, her baby received the final PCR test results.

HIV-free.

A healthy child. A new beginning.

Purity’s story is a reflection of what’s possible when mothers are supported, informed, and empowered. It’s a reminder that behind every healthy child is a mother who showed up, stayed committed, and chose hope again and again.

As we look ahead to celebrating mothers around the world, stories like Purity’s invite us to pause and recognize the strength, resilience, and love that define motherhood in every corner of the globe.

Because every mother carries hope. And every child deserves the chance to thrive.
