Angeline is a dedicated member of the Atotingas support group, so when she stopped attending meetings for a month, Gacheri, the community health volunteer (CHV) for the group, paid her a home visit. There, Gacheri found that Angeline had been ill and battling frequent infections even though she was adherent to her antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Gacheri realized the medication was failing Angeline and referred her to Isiolo County Hospital, where the doctors switched her to a second-line HIV regimen. Within a month, Angeline’s health improved!
Gacheri continued to visit Angeline to help her with her new medication and to provide emotional support. Sometimes, Gacheri even brings groceries to Angeline – anything to make her feel loved and cared for.
Once her health began to improve, the entire Atotingas support group visited Angeline at her home to pray for her and encourage her. Angeline says that she is so grateful that they stood with her during a very difficult time.
